This commemorative RNLI full spoon ring features prominent hallmarks along its handle, each providing insight into the ring’s origins and craftsmanship. The ‘Sterling Lion’ hallmark confirms that the spoon, from which the ring was fashioned, is made of sterling silver. Additionally, the Anchor mark signifies that the piece was assayed in Birmingham, a notable centre for silver production.
The maker’s mark ‘RC’ identifies Robert Chandle, the silversmith responsible for the original spoon. Completing the set of hallmarks is the letter ‘V’, which dates the spoon to the years 1920–1921. The ring’s design incorporates a hammered bowl, which is partially concealed by the elegantly wrapped handle, further enhancing its distinctive character and commemorative nature.
